In Palestine (West Bank) an Israeli soldier or settler enters a Palestinian shop and vandalises objects. Often this involves threats, abuse, shouting, waving and pointing guns, and sometimes use of stun grenades. It is a common occurrence. It contributes to the intense suffering of ordinary people surviving under the Israeli military occupation of Palestine. For information on Israeli shops see our FAQs.
During the clear-up, the broken objects are priced up at their unbroken value and a photo is taken and sent to us.
A picture is then sold in the Joyful Sale to people like you, who wish to help those caught up in the violence. You pay online by bank transfer to a UK bank, and receive the picture on card (or electronically if outside UK) with a Joyful message.
The shopkeeper/their supplier who was the original victim of the act of vandalism, is reimbursed the value of the unbroken object and thus receives what is rightfully theirs. In the terrible economic situation in Palestine every sale counts, and a purchase can put a family meal on someone’s table. People’s dignity is respected, and a measure of justice restored.
Adapting the original Joyful Sale, an object can be sold more than once, and all proceeds from repeat sales go to help people suffering in Palestine (West Bank or Gaza), through our contacts in the region, charities, UN, or by other routes to support peace and equal human rights there. That means more meals can be provided, more assistance can be given, and more justice can be restored. All purchasers receive the object picture and a Joyful note from us.
All people of all backgrounds are welcome to participate in the Joyful Sale. We are not pro-Israeli or pro-Palestinian. We are pro equal human rights and international law. We believe that by doing a little we can all bring some justice and happiness in this dark time.
